LAYERED introduces a new design collaboration with artist Heather Chontos. A collection where her abstract design language takes new form through LAYERED's expertise in textile craftsmanship, and three original works are reinterpreted into hand-knotted rugs.

Heather Chontos is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist, known for her abstract works featuring bold color palettes and organic forms. Her artistic expression moves fluidly between painting, sculpture, and design, reflecting her background in set design and illustration. From her horse farm in rural Portugal, Chontos draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape and the ever-changing light, infusing each piece with a strong sense of presence and energy.

Kaleidoscope is a rug that reimagines a pivotal artwork from an experimental period in Heather Chonto’s career—when she began working with antique linen and found fabrics. The result is a dynamic composition of color, form, and contrast, infused with traces of movement, exploration, and transformation. Through meticulous craftsmanship, the rug translates the original painting’s tactile qualities and intricate color play into a contemporary textile. It captures Chonto’s artistic vision in both hue and texture—offering a bold yet nuanced expression for the modern interior.

Care Instructions:
Cleaning: Vacuum regularly without a brush. For deeper cleaning, it is recommended to use a laundry service for flat washing.
Stain removal: Wipe the stain carefully with a mixture of lukewarm water and soap. Absorb excess liquid with a dry microfiber cloth.

Samples:
We offer samples in different sizes to help you make a long-term decision. For patterned rugs or rugs with varying pile heights and textures, we recommend the 20" x 20" sample size. Please note that for patterned styles, the sample only shows a carefully selected part of the pattern and does not represent the full design of the rug. The 4" x 7" sample size is ideal when the focus is solely on verifying color choice and texture.

Size Guide Living Room:
Front legs of sofas and armchairs should rest on the rug. Rug should extend about 8–12 inches beyond the furniture.

Size Guide Dining Room:
Rug should fit under the table and chairs, even when chairs are pulled out. Ensure at least 24 inches extra on each side beyond the table.

Size Guide Bedroom:
Rug should extend well beyond the bed. A good rule is 24–36 inches on each side.
