Morpheme delves into Jana Jonhardsdóttir’s explorative abstract compositions through a complex labyrinth of simple organic structures. Inspired by the work of biologist Lindenmayer and his system of identifying organic structures, Jonhardsdóttir translates this combination of the simple and the complex within nature to create work that speaks to a higher spiritual connection. The way in which tides move or organisms connect and multiply, or even the vastness of space are all referenced within this detailed composition.

Jana Jonhardsdóttir is a contemporary artist based in the Faroe Islands, focusing primarily on a monochromatic colour palette as well as her current environment, surrounded by the North Atlantic Ocean - a transient source of inspiration for her abstract work. With a wide range of mediums such as wood, prints, paints, and carving, Jana makes expressionistic art consisting of repetitive patterns and minimalistic referencing. Much of the work resembles the mechanics of clocks - compulsive energy, repetitive and a reliable pattern, similar to the character of the ocean.
